Class

Beekeeping for Absolute Beginners

Thursday, August 4, 6PM-7PM

Location: The Robin’s Nest

If you’ve ever been curious about starting a backyard hive, this class is for you! The beekeepers from Buddha Bee Apiary will cover the basics of how to keep bees. No prerequisite knowledge is required! You’ll learn what equipment you need, how to acquire bees, introductory management techniques, common mistakes to avoid, and more! Samples of local mead will be provided!

Fee is $20/person

Gnome Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, August 6, 9AM-4:30PM

Location: The Garden Center

Petunia’s Gnomies are up to their mischief once again! They’ll be hiding throughout the Garden Center and it’s up to you to find them and solve their riddles!

They’ll be hiding all day on Saturday, August 6. This is a FREE event open to all ages (geared towards ages 6-10.) Grownups must stay with their kiddos during this event.

The first clue will be located within the Little Free Library. Make sure to stop there first, grab an answer sheet, and check out the books inside while you’re there!

This Scavenger Hunt is a self-guided event, which you can take at your own pace. If you have any questions, our events staff is here to help! We’ll be stationed at The Potting Shed area all day.

Happy, Healthy Houseplants Level 2

Saturday, August 13, 10AM-11AM

Location: The Robin’s Nest

So your houseplants are doing well and you are ready to take your new hobby (or obsession) to the next level! This class will address both the enviornmental and cultural needs of houseplants. Horticultural practices will be discussed so you can better choose plants to fit your lifestyle. We will also review potting options and how to spot and fix common probelms. Be sure to bring your questions and concerns!

Fee is $15/person; includes watering tool or measuring tape.

Live Honey Bee Hive Inspection

Saturday, August 13, 12PM-1PM

Location: Animal Alley (near the Goat Pen!)

See what’s going on inside the hive at For Garden’s Sake! Join beekeeper Alfredo Salkeld from Buddha Bee Apiary as he checks on our bees and explains how these magical creatures live and work. You’ll discover how they make honey, what keeps them busy inside their nest, what challenges they face, and more. If we’re lucky, we may even get to see the queen!

Bring your curiosity and your questions!

Perfect for ages 3-10 but open to all ages. Grown ups must stay with their kiddos during this event.This event is FREE to attend!

For Friday’s Sake

Friday, August 18, 5PM-8PM

Location: Garden Center

Need more time to shop? Well you’re in luck, because we are extending the Garden Center hours until 8PM!

The Potting Shed will be open and serving beverages and Sunset Slush until 8PM, so come and enjoy the ambiance on the patio and take in the sunset. Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs or a blanket for seating – the patio tables go fast!

Repotting Houseplants Bootcamp

Saturday, August 20, 10AM-11AM

Location: The Robin’s Nest

It’s a great time of year to repot your houseplants!

Learn everything you need to know to up-pot and re-pot your plants for optimum health and growth in this lecture-based demonstration. Pruning tips will be discussed to improve the plant’s wellbeing as it thrives in its new pot!

The first 6 people to register will be able to bring a houseplant from home to be repotted in this demonstration! Look for an email to confirm your eligibility prior to the class date.

Fee is $15/person; includes a pair of pruners.

Propagation Station 101

Sunday, August 21, 10AM-11AM

Location: The Robin’s Nest

Is your plant dying and you want to save it? Do you want to multiply your plants without spending money on new ones? Do you love watching plants thrive under your care? Learning how to propagate your plants is just what you need!

This class will cover the basics of propagating different types of plants from existing plant materials you already own! We will cover several methods of propagating in different mediums using different parts of the plant. Cuttings will be provided to show examples of different methods. Come learn the basics of multiplying your plants at the PROPAGATION STATION.

Fee is $15/person; includes plant clippings.

FGS Plant Swap

Saturday, August 27, 10AM-11AM

Location: The Potting Shed

Dust those leaves and knock off that dirt because we are hosting a PLANT SWAP!

Want to change things up in your plant collection? Bring a plant (or two, or three…) to our plant swap, where everyone will take turns selecting a new plant for their collections.

Event fee is $5, which includes a mimosa OR a regular Sunset Slush! We’ll also open up The Potting Shed for this event if you would like to purchase a different (or second!) drink. Sip on a mimosa while you make new friends and freshen up your plant collection.

Please come prepared to share details with the group about caring for the plants you are offering up to swap. Everyone must bring at least one plant to contribute to the swap! Please label each plant with at least its name; lighting and watering preferences are also encouraged. PLANTS MUST BE DISEASE AND PEST FREE.

Indoor Succulent Bowl Workshop

Sunday, August 28, 2PM-3PM

Location: The Robin’s Nest

Let’s plant an easy care succulent bowl to enjoy in your favorite bright indoor space! We’ll have a beautiful variety of succulent options to choose from and you can get creative with your design! Plan to get your hands dirty and have fun (but we also have gardening gloves if you prefer not to get too messy). Perfect for succulent lovers of all experience levels!

Fee is $60/person; includes all necessary materials and supplies, a mimosa, and light snacks.
